There are many things in life that can be addictive and weight loss is certainly one of them. It's not just those with eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia that can become addicted. People who simply want to look trim and beautiful can find themselves doing things that's not strictly good for them.

For instance we keep being told how fat is the cause of obesity and how it cloggs up your arteries. However most people end up forgetting that some forms of fat can be very good for you and is actually essential. That's why it's a good idea to eat a couple of servings of fish a week.

Healthy fat is needed for all sorts of things in the body including the myelin sheath which protects our nerves. Without it we can develop problems with nerve pain (neuropathy) and symptoms of MS.

You can also end up with dry skin, brittle nails, fatigue, cognitive problems and depression due to fatty acid deficiencies.

Then there's the problem of over exercising. Sure, exercising is really great for your body as it improves lung capacity, builds muscle and releases endorphins. However if you start exercising every day then you can do a lot of damage.

This is because you're not letting your body recover properly. You'll simply end up exhausted which will make you feel terrible. People simply burn out this way.

And when you combine a diet with little in the way of fat, protein and other nutrients with doing too much exercise you really can make yourself ill.

People also resort to taking all sorts of fat burners and other pills to help them lose weight. This might be OK if you're really careful and know exactly what you're buying however there are many people who end up ill because of dodgy pills. Some people even die.
